Demon Hunter sues Netflix over 'KPop Demon Hunters' name
Christian metal band Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and concert promoter AEG Presents, claiming the hugely successful KPop Demon Hunters franchise infringes on the band's long-established trademark. Demon Hunter, which has been releasing music and touring since 2000, says the movie's soundtrack, merchandise and planned live events have created confusion among consumers—including one parent who mistakenly spent $500 on Demon Hunter concert tickets believing they were for a KPop Demon Hunters event. The band is seeking damages and a court order restricting Netflix's use of the name in connection with music, merchandise and live performances. Netflix has its own trademarks and pending applications for KPop Demon Hunters, setting up a potentially significant trademark dispute.
